Troubleshooting

Amazon image upload rejected: what to check

When Amazon rejects a product image, check pixels, file weight, format, background and the original file—not a twice-compressed JPEG.

Steps

  1. Copy the exact error and the file properties

Note width, height, format, and megabytes. Compare them to the current Amazon image help page for that marketplace. Guessing wastes the next upload attempt.

  2. Go back to the master, not the last export

Open the camera or design file. If you only have a rejected JPEG, you may still resize it down, but you cannot restore lost detail. Never overwrite the master.

  3. Resize, then compress in the browser

Use Image Resizer for the slot’s longest side and aspect. Use Image Compressor to cut bytes. Zoom jewelry edges and overlay type at 100% before you leave the tab.

  4. Retry one slot, then check zoom on a phone

Upload the new main image only. If it still fails, the message is probably background, text-on-image, or color space—not weight. Fix that photo instead of crushing quality again.

Read the rejection, then isolate the cause

Seller Central messages mix pixel minimums, file size, color space, background, and prohibited text. A 20 MB camera file can fail even when the longest side is fine. A 400 px thumbnail can fail even when the JPEG is tiny. CrossKit is not an official Amazon partner; the current image help page still wins on rules.

Weight vs pixels vs background

If the file is huge, resize the longest side first, then compress in the browser. If the file is small but soft, you probably upscaled a thumb. If the main image is rejected for background, no compressor will invent a white sweep—you need a different photo. Infographic type that smears after JPEG should go back to PNG from the master.

Filenames and the wrong slot

A 9:16 video cover in the main slot looks “wrong” even when bytes are legal. Name exports by SKU and role. Do not upload a screenshot of an already-compressed JPEG; artifacts stack and Seller Central still may bounce the file.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did a small file still get rejected?

Pixels, background, prohibited badges, or a wrong aspect can fail independently of kilobytes. Read the message; do not only compress again.

Will CrossKit guarantee Amazon approval?

No. It prepares files in the browser. Approval follows Amazon’s current rules and the photo you actually shot.

JPEG or PNG after a rejection?

Photographic packshots: JPEG after resize. Sharp type or graphics: PNG from the master. Do not convert a muddy JPEG into PNG hoping to recover detail.
